Overview
Born December 30, 1946 in Philadelphia, Ed Byrne is a trombonist, composer, arranger, educator, author, and self-publisher who has performed and recorded with most of the jazz world’s leading musicians during a career that has spanned four decades.
A Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music, Ed is the recipient of many honors. He was nominated Best Trombone Soloist by Latin New York magazine; his composition Fenway Funk was nominated for a Grammy Award; and Eddie Palmieri’s 1974 album, Unfinished Masterpiece, on which Ed played lead trombone, won a Grammy Award the following year.
Ed performs his original compositions regularly with his band, Eastern Standard Time, and as a solo jazz trombonist, using the latest interactive computer looping and electronic effects technology.
